Health and Wellness

The focus of this course is on the physical, social and emotional aspects of health. Students will research their family's health history in regard to disease prevention. Students will set personal wellness goals in areas of nutrition and fitness. The following topics will also be covered: human sexuality, relationships, substance abuse prevention, and communication skills. As part of the human sexuality unit students are required to take care of a "Real Care Baby", a computerized baby simulator. In addition, students will learn how the media influences our choices and behaviors in each of these topics. Guest speakers and videos are used to enhance the curriculum when possible. Students are graded on class participation, projects, tests, and homework.
